      • Dr. Bravi was appointed as Robotic Surgeon mainly focusing in pelvic and upper urinary tract operations. His everyday practice involves:

- Robotic radical prostatectomy ± pelvic lymphadenectomy and nerve-sparing techniques for prostate cancer

- Robotic radical and partial nephrectomy for kidney cancer

- Robotic nephroureterectomy and bladder cuff excision for upper urinary tract cancer

        • ​​The Royal Marsden Hospital was the first cancer center in the world ( At this renown Institution, Dr. Bravi was appointed as senior surgical fellow with a specific focus to retroperitoneal surgery. This service includes the management of patients with urological cancers and – in particular – those with advanced kidney and testis malignancies.

        • Dr. Bravi participated in multi-disciplinary meetings where complex oncological cases are discussed with different experts involved in the management of these patients, such as radiologists, pathologists and radiation oncologists.

        • Together with clinical activities (rota, on-calls, and patient clinical management), Dr. Bravi organized weekly theatre lists and he performed complex retroperitoneal surgeries (open and robot-assisted) such as:

- Retroperitoneal lymphadenectomies for testis cancer in primary and secondary settings

Radical nephrectomies ± vena caval thrombectomy

- Partial nephrectomies

- Adrenal surgeries (metastasectomies and/or primary tumors)

        • Thanks to a dedicated modular training program in robotic surgery, Dr. Bravi has achieved technical proficiency in performing urological procedures using different surgical platforms, including:

          Medtronic Systems: HUGO Robot-Assisted Surgery ( In early 2022, Dr. Bravi assisted the first human case performed in Europe with the HUGO Robot-Assisted Surgery system by Prof. A. Mottrie (link to the article).

        • Dr. Bravi coordinated a team of researchers, students and residents in clinical research on the surgical outcomes of patients operated at OLV hospital in Aalst. These research projects mainly focus on outcomes of operations for prostate, kidney and bladder cancer.

        • As part of surgical rotations, Dr. Bravi was involved in endoscopic surgeries of the lower urinary tract. In particular, laser surgery for benign prostatic hyperplasia performed with Holmium laser (Holep).

ORSI Academy is the European epicenter for training in robotic surgery ( At this academy, Dr. Bravi was appointed for different positions, listed below:

  1. Assistant Medical Director 

    • Dr. Bravi coordinated the training activities at ORSI Academy, especially those on Medtronic HUGO RAS surgical platform and DaVinci robots.

    • ORSI Academy is a training center that offers a wide variety of surgical courses, in particular for robotic surgery. (

  2. Trainer for courses in Robotic Surgery 

    • Dr. Bravi is a certified trainer for courses in robotic surgery primarily performed on Intuitive Surgical and Medtronic robotic platforms.

    • The training activities periodically carried out by Dr. Bravi were:

      • ​European Robotic Urological Society (ccERUS) certified curriculum for robotic radical prostatectomy (

      • Advanced robotic surgery course

      • Basic skills training in robotic surgery (e.g. suture, use of energy, dissection)

      • Dry and wet labs as part of technical training - i.e. specifics of surgical machine, buttons, pedals, etc etc - for those approaching new robotic platforms

    • All training programs were based on a specific training methodology called proficiency-based progression (PBP) training, i.e. progression in training based on the demonstration of proficiency, an objective and validated approach for the acquisition of new skills in surgery and other fields.

    • All courses were performed on live (pigs) and cadaveric (avian, canine and human) models.

  3. Researcher (clinical data and training methodology)

    • Dr. Bravi was actively involved in research projects focused on surgical education. These activities included:

      • Development of new models of training by applying the PBP methodology.

      • Development of new training programs that might be applicable to different procedures (e.g. pelvic and/or renal surgery), both in dry (mannequin or pelvic trainer) and wet (animal or human models) labs.

      • Technological innovations in surgery (e.g. new robotic platforms, new surgical devices such as staplers or special surgical instruments).

      • Applying artificial intelligence and imaging innovations in surgery and other clinical tasks (e.g. prostate biopsy).
