      • Robotic partial and radical nephrectomy for kidney cancer

      • Robotic nephro-ureterectomy for upper urinary tract urothelial cancer

  • Trainer/Proctor for robotic surgery (Medtronic HUGO RAS) [Current position]

Dr. Bravi specializes in training for robotic surgery, particularly with the Hugo RAS system (https://www.medtronic.com/hugo-ras-system.html). With extensive expertise in this cutting-edge technology, he is dedicated to educating and guiding medical professionals approaching this new surgical platform. Usually, new adopters of this robotic technology are scheduled for technical and clinical training sessions where they are supported and guided by Dr. Bravi, learning the technique and how to use the HUGO RAS machine.

Recent proctorship programs were scheduled in:

- Spain, Valencia (La Ribera Hospital)

- Spain, Barcelona (Fundación Puigvert)

- United Kingdom, Kent (Medway Maritime Hospital)

- Italy, Faenza (San Pier Damiano Hospital)

- Belgium, Ghent (ORSI Academy)

These proctorship programs involve pelvic surgeries such as robotic radical prostatectomy as well as retroperitoneal surgery, that is, robotic partial and radical nephrectomies.

  • At The Royal Marsden Hospital, London (UK) [Current position]

    • Urologist

      1. Honorary Surgical Fellow [February 2024 - current]

      2. Fellow in Complex Retroperitoneal Surgery [June 2023 - January 2024]

        • At this renowned cancer center, Dr. Bravi was appointed as Senior Surgical Fellow, with special attention to the surgical management of retroperitoneal oncology and - in particular - of kidney and testicular tumors.

        • Dr. Bravi regularly participated in multi-disciplinary meetings discussing complex oncology cases from numerous hospitals in the country together with radiologists, oncologists, pathologists and other surgeons.

        • Dr. Bravi organized the weekly and monthly operating rooms and performed complex retroperitoneal surgeries (with open and robotic techniques) such as:
          - Retroperitoneal lymphadenectomies for testicular cancer
          - Radical nephrectomies ± removal of caval thrombus
          - Partial nephrectomies
          - Adrenal surgeries for primary adrenal tumors and/or metastases
          - Radical prostatectomy for prostate cancer

  • At OLV Hospital, Aalst (Belgium) [2021 - 2023]

    • Urologist

      1. Fellow in Robotic Surgery and Uro-Oncology

        • Dr. Bravi was trained in robotic surgery and performed all major operations including:
          - Robotic radical prostatectomy ± lymphadenectomy and nerve-sparing techniques
          - Robotic partial and radical nephrectomy
          - Robotic pyeloplasty

          - Robotic nephro-ureterectomy

        • Thanks to a dedicated modular training in robotic surgery, Dr. Bravi has achieved technical proficiency in urological procedures on multiple surgical platforms, including:
Intuitive Surgical: daVinci Si, X e Xi (https://www.intuitive.com/en-us)
Medtronic: HUGO Robot-Assisted Surgery (https://www.medtronic.com/hugo-ras-system.html). In early 2022, Dr. Bravi assisted the first human case performed in Europe with the HUGO Robot-Assisted Surgery system by Prof. A. Mottrie (direct link to article).

        • Dr. Bravi coordinated a team of researchers, students and residents on clinical research projects on surgical outcomes of patients operated at the OLV Hospital. These research projects focused primarily on the outcomes of interventions for prostate, kidney and bladder cancers.

      2. Fellow in Endoscopy for Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (Holep)

        • As part of surgical rota, Dr. Bravi performed endoscopic lower urinary tract surgery. In particular, surgery for benign prostatic hypertrophy performed with Holmium laser (Holep).

  • At ORSI Academy, Ghent (Belgium) [2021 - 2023]

At this surgical training center, Dr. Bravi has held different positions:

  1. Trainer for robotic surgery courses

    • Dr. Bravi is a certified trainer for robotic surgery courses performed primarily on Intuitive Surgical and Medtronic robotic platforms.

    • Training activities periodically carried out by Dr. Bravi are listed below:

      • Certified Curriculum of the European Robotic Urological Society (ccERUS) for robotic radical prostatectomy (https://uroweb.org/eau-sections/erus-robotic-curriculum)

      • Advanced course for complex robotic surgery

      • Basic surgical skills in robotic surgery (e.g. suturing, diathermy use, dissection)

      • Dry and wet lab as part of technical training - i.e. specifics of surgical machine, buttons, pedals, etc etc - for those approaching new robotic platforms

    • All training programs were based on a specific training methodology called proficiency-based progression (PBP) training, i.e. progression in training based on demonstration of competence, an objective and validated approach for the acquisition of new skills.

    • All courses were performed on live (swine) and cadaveric (avian, canine and human) models.

  2. Assistant Medical Director

  3. Clinical researcher on surgical training

    • Dr. Bravi is actively involved in research projects focused on surgical training. These activities include:

      • Development of new training models applying the PBP methodology.

      • Development of new training programs applicable to different procedures (e.g. pelvic and/or renal surgery), both on dry (mannequin or pelvic trainer) and wet (animal or human models) labs.

      • Technological innovations in surgery (e.g. new robotic platforms, new surgical devices such as staplers or surgical instruments).

      • Application of artificial intelligence and imaging innovations in surgery and other clinical activities (e.g. prostate biopsy).
