Dr Carlo Bravi, private consultant urologist and robotic surgeon in London.
The Wellington Hospital in London, where Dr Carlo Bravi performs private robotic urological surgery.

Dr Bravi assesses and manages a broad range of urological and andrological conditions affecting men and women. These include:

  • Urinary difficulties and changes in urinary flow

  • Enlarged prostate and benign prostatic hyperplasia

  • Raised PSA and suspected prostate cancer

  • Confirmed prostate cancer

  • Blood in the urine

  • Kidney masses and abnormalities identified on scans

  • Bladder conditions

  • Testicular lumps, swelling or discomfort

  • Penile and scrotal conditions

  • Erectile dysfunction

  • Follow-up following urological treatment

  • Requests for a specialist second opinion

Not every condition requires surgery. The purpose of the consultation is to review the available information, establish whether further investigation is required and discuss appropriate surgical and non-surgical treatment options.

What Happens During Your First Consultation?

Your first consultation provides an opportunity to discuss your symptoms, general health, medications and previous treatment. Dr Bravi will review relevant medical correspondence, blood-test results, scan reports, biopsy findings and other available investigations. Depending on the reason for the appointment, a clinical examination may be recommended.

Where additional investigations are required, these may include urine or blood tests, imaging, urinary-flow assessment, cystoscopy or another specialist test. Some investigations may need to be arranged separately at an appropriate hospital or diagnostic facility.

The aim is to provide a clear explanation of the possible diagnosis, the available evidence and the next steps. Where more than one treatment option is reasonable, the respective benefits, limitations and potential risks will be discussed. If possible, patients should bring an up-to-date medication list and copies of any relevant letters, scan reports, pathology results or previous operation records.

Second Opinions in London

A second-opinion consultation can be helpful when a patient has received a new diagnosis, has been offered more than one treatment or would like an independent review before deciding how to proceed. Dr Bravi can review available imaging, biopsy findings, pathology reports and previous recommendations. A second opinion does not commit a patient to surgery or to receiving further treatment from Dr Bravi. Where appropriate, the consultation may include discussion of:

  • Whether further investigation is required

  • Whether surgery is appropriate

  • Alternative treatments

  • The potential role of robotic surgery

  • Functional and oncological outcomes

  • Expected recovery

  • The advantages and limitations of the proposed treatment

  • Questions to raise with the existing clinical team

Relevant records should ideally be made available before the appointment, particularly when the consultation concerns cancer treatment or complex surgery.

Private Robotic Urological Surgery in London

Dr Bravi has specialist experience in robotic and minimally invasive urological surgery. When robotic surgery is considered appropriate, private robotic procedures are undertaken at The Wellington Hospital in London. The robotic system does not perform the operation independently. The instruments remain under the surgeon’s control throughout the procedure while providing a magnified three-dimensional view and precise movement within the operating field.

Robotic surgery may be used for selected prostate, kidney and upper urinary tract conditions. However, it is not automatically the best approach for every patient. The recommended treatment depends on the diagnosis, imaging, previous treatment, general health, individual anatomy and the objectives of surgery.

Robotic Prostate Surgery

Robotic radical prostatectomy is an operation used to treat selected patients with prostate cancer. The prostate and seminal vesicles are removed, and the bladder is then reconnected to the urethra. Pelvic lymph nodes may also be removed when clinically appropriate. Treatment planning considers the stage and grade of the cancer, PSA, MRI and biopsy findings, general health, urinary function, sexual function and reasonable alternatives to surgery.

Where oncologically safe and technically possible, the surgeon may attempt to preserve the nerves involved in erectile function. The priority remains appropriate cancer removal, and nerve preservation should not compromise cancer control.

Further information is available on the Robotic Radical Prostatectomy page.

Robotic Kidney Surgery

Robotic surgery may also be used for selected kidney tumours and other upper urinary tract conditions. A robotic partial nephrectomy aims to remove a kidney mass while preserving the remaining healthy kidney. Whether this is appropriate depends on the size and position of the tumour, its relationship to blood vessels and the kidney’s collecting system, the appearance on imaging and the patient’s overall health.

In some circumstances, removal of the entire kidney may be safer or more appropriate. Other robotic procedures can include nephroureterectomy and reconstructive operations involving the kidney or ureter. The suitability of robotic, laparoscopic or open surgery should be assessed individually. Further information is available on the Robotic Kidney Surgery page.

Aquablation for Benign Prostate Enlargement

Aquablation is a minimally invasive surgical treatment for urinary symptoms caused by benign prostate enlargement (BPH). The procedure uses a robotically controlled, high-pressure waterjet to remove the prostate tissue obstructing urinary flow. The treatment is planned using real-time ultrasound imaging and remains under the surgeon’s control throughout the procedure.

Aquablation is different from robotic radical prostatectomy. It treats non-cancerous prostate enlargement without removing the entire prostate and is not a treatment for prostate cancer. Suitability depends on the patient’s symptoms, prostate anatomy, previous investigations, general health and alternative treatment options. Dr Bravi offers consultations for patients considering Aquablation, and the procedure is undertaken privately at The Wellington Hospital in London when appropriate.

Further information is available on the Aquablation Surgery page.

From Consultation to Treatment

The pathway begins with an individual consultation and review of the relevant investigations. If additional tests are required, these will be arranged or recommended before a final treatment decision is made. When surgery is appropriate, Dr Bravi will explain:

  • The proposed operation

  • The potential benefits and limitations

  • Reasonable alternatives

  • Important risks and possible complications

  • Expected hospital stay

  • Catheter or drainage requirements

  • Anticipated recovery

  • Arrangements for pathology results and follow-up

The exact pathway varies according to the diagnosis and procedure. Surgery will only be recommended after consideration of the available evidence, the patient’s general health and personal priorities.

What patients say

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Dr. Carlo Bravi performed my father’s prostate cancer surgery, and we are extremely grateful for the excellent outcome. Considering that urinary incontinence can be a common concern after this type of operation, my father recovered remarkably well. Just 8 weeks after surgery, he was doing very well with an excellent recovery and no significant complications.

Thank you, Dr. Bravi, for your skill, care, and professionalism. We highly recommend him to anyone needing prostate cancer surgery.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

I am very pleased to recommend Mr Bravi, having been under his care during 2026 including him conducting a laparoscopic robot assisted prostatectomy. During initial consultations Mr Bravi and all his colleagues took onboard and understood my reservations about surgery and the potential of life changing side effects. I had no choice but to have surgery. Due to his surgical expertise and precision, the operation was a success and I am relieved not to be showing any sign of the main side effects, for which I am truly grateful.
